KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS is a new space in Vienna, dedicated to displaying and commissioning contemporary art, supporting international and Austria-based artists to pursue new directions and exhibit critical work.
With a focus on film, performance, sound and new writing, the program supports interdisciplinary practices and under-represented positions. Taking as a starting point the history of Vienna as a center for radical performativity and experimental artistic discourse each year unfolds as a series of exhibitions critically expanded and in dialogue with an active public program of performances and events. For audiences, the space provides opportunities to experience and engage through participation and reflection.
KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS operates as an exhibition space, publishing house and community platform.
Located in Kandlgasse 12/3 – 4, 1070 Vienna, the space is a late 19th century pavilion surrounded by a courtyard and garden. Inspired by the biodiversity of gardens, the concept of reciprocity and ecological thinking, KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS endures cultural exchange and experimentation across fields and disciplines.
As a polyfunctional venue, where people can watch, visit, gather, and learn, also thanks to its proximity to Café Kandl and its local community focused on care and food excellence, it engages with different audiences whilst also providing a space for conviviality.
Open to the public. Free admission for all.
KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS is directed by Attilia Fattori Franchini and Ursula Mayer with the support of Anna Hugo as curatorial assistant.
KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS is a non-for-profit, supported by the City of Vienna among other partners and individuals.
