Western Classical Music is built on functional harmony and progresses linearly, whereas Indian Classical Music (ICM) prioritises the elaboration of a melody in a cyclical time framework. This key difference may be why ICM often needs to be simplified when used to score films.
Let’s consider this disjuncture between ICM and film scoring as an opportunity. What could an alternative be like? What solutions are out there?

Conceived to happen between shows, Intermezzo enhances the exhibition program of KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS with performative interventions circling around sound, spoken word, dance and movement. The series is conceived by Lewon Heublein.
- Harkeerat Mangat
Harkeerat Mangat studied fine art with Christopher Williams at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Dhrupad with Pt. Uday Bhawalkar in Pune, India, and is currently writing a master’s thesis in Cognitive Science at the University of Vienna. Duett at KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS is his first presentation of art in the city of Vienna.
